The shot has promise. It might work better to try a shot from pine cone level and bring one or two into focus. More horizontal light would pick up the texture of the cones.

Thanks everyone, Oldmacman I considered laying down for the shot but the grass was damp and the misquitoes were biting ! I have to wait for the sun to be in a certain spot to get a little light on the scene. I will try to get that shot.
