I would agree with Phillip. Very nice composition, I like this place already, but the sharpness is slicing my eyes (even through dark glasses ). Is that HDR ? It has a feel of very fine pencil drawing.

I was trying out a technique revealed to me by David Byrne http://www.85mm.co.uk/ there is very little sharpening even though it appears so at the 1024 level. The sharpness is achieved by making multiple exposure layers, inversion masks and a lot of contrast. It is quite complicated and tedious but this prints out so beautifully, it is among my favorites and has been a good seller. There was no HDR but there is a lot of layer masking.

If you go to David's website, and you should, go to "Landscapes," and go ack 4 or 5 pages...his B&W is simply stunning.

Lots of edges (high edge frequency) limit how much sharpening can be done, but the sharpening technique used also matters.

If you haven't already, explore LAB sharpening, luminosity sharpening, and using Un-Sharp Mask backwards (low Amount, high Radius) to enhance local contrast.

If you don't already have it, I recommend - Real World Image Sharpening with Adobe Photoshop, Camera Raw, and Lightroom (2nd Edition)

The authors of that book wrote the software that is the Sharpening panel of ACR (Camera Raw/Develop module).

Is this still a photography ? Sounds more like graphics. Nevertheless very good results.

I think the first one could be real nice without the deep HDR.
In the second, the heavy wood projections seem to overwhelm everything. I might try some contrasting to the water and sky to help even things out.

Thanks, everyone. It is a wall hanger. There is no HDR, only a different approach to post processing. I am still learning the process. The second image is also a wall hanger. They are quite strong in tonal range and detail in texture and pretty much in your face kind of images. I just wish the translation from a 17MB to a 350+KB file showed the subtle differences lost. Oh well, given David's success in the international photography salons, I think I'll continue to learn the process.

I am afraid that here you are sooo right. The pain of that is often misjudgment. I don't even scan my prints anymore, my scanner sucks(and me to at scanning).

When my scanner worked, I used it to make fun images...now it holds up part of my bookcase.
