I'm not sure what to make of this. It certainly has plenty of contrast and texture. It looks like there's something stuck to one of the bones, but I can't tell what it is, so I may be missing the whole point.

On a technical level, there are some spots on the bones near their lower ends that are burnt out. I suspect the scanning because negative film usually doesn't have burnt highlights unless it's overexposed. Might be worth another scan at lower brightness or with a curves-type adjustment. I might also crop a lot on the bottom - the foreground isn't as interesting as the branches above the bones which echo their shapes.

The symbolism of the bone placement was my reasoning for the title. So, yes, you literally missed the "whole point" ,or better yet, the "blade"...
