So I took the kit lens off, and popped a Rokkor 50mm F1.4 on. I think manual focusing is easier to wrangle than the AF on my camera. I programmed a button to magnify and it seems to work well.
This was shot around F1.8
I like it, but I think it might benefit from a crop to help composition, but I can't quite wrap my head around it.

I agree with the crop and you might want to check your diopter for manual focus correction. This is just a touch on the soft side of sharp.

Thanks, I should probably check that. But more than likely it or me was moving slightly. His branch was moving a little bit in the wind. I tried to focus right between his eyes. and the DOF is pretty shallow.

why did you place the dragonfly at that spot? I'm thinking on the second posted picture

For whatever reason, I feel like I should crop the background instead of the branch he is on. But I still wanted to keep some of the pink in the background. How would you have done it?
