I looked at this for a while trying to get it into my head. First thoughts were; I want more dog and less background, here is an excellent range of tone, and why not include the owner's face?

Ok, I'm with Designer on this one. The background on the left isn't helping the shot. Using that space to include the entire dog would have been much better, and techinically it's a good B&W. As far as the comp, did you shot this from the hip or did you actual kneel? Shooting from the hip would expain the comp, but I'd still crop some of it out.

Im the opposite i want to see more background so it tells more of a story i'm not bothered about seeing the owners face, i shoot a lot of dogs like this

The owner and the "2 whole dogs" are there, albeit as a shadow only, hence the odd composition.
Not a shot I am comfortable with.
