Wow! I would have been scared! How close we're you? I guess they were pretty distracted.

I was about 8 feet away. I'm using an old AF 75-300 that I bought for my n80 film camera years ago. I shot it at 300mm f/11. I was checking out all the wasp nests in my out building. This all took place in a manner of seconds.
