All that and a can of corn. If they are around people at all, they are usually pretty well suckered with the offer of a tasty treat. Toss a little out there to get their attention, then draw them in with a shorter toss. Don't want the corn in the shot? Let them finish. They will usually stick around for a little while hoping for more. And in this case, I wouldn't worry about being behind a tree. Be out in the open, but sit down on the ground to appear a little smaller and move a little slower.
