What A Mess

Well I have learned that some ants produce a "Kitchen Midden" or you might call it the outhouse. In a corner of my laundry room I found a collection of "dust" and swept it away. However the next day it was there again. Looking very closely and it turned out to be a scrap heap produced by very tiny ants (2.5 cm long). It turns out a common practice among some ant species is to haul refuse and dead ant corpses to a scrap heap somewhere beyond the nest. Image is of a space about 1,5 inches across.
