What keeps going wrong with my moving shots?

Trying to do this? Well, your setting was pretty good. However your camera doesnt move the same direction as the car, thats why it doesnt look good. Try it when the car is right in front of you going left and right. Dont do it when the car is moving away or moving closer. That is when you get blurry front or rear. Make the shutter faster like 1/80. Once you are comfortable with 1/80 then make it a little faster and faster. Good luck!

This was a big part of what I was trying to say.

But the compression added at longer telephoto lengths will mitigate the problem as well.

Damn, never thought of that, wow. Yea my camera was still set on single shot focus. It has AI Servo AF for moving subjects, wow i'm dumb. I'm pretty sure thats why it got messed up. It focus but the front of the car moved out ahead of the focus point so it blurred the front and kept the middle and the back in focus.

Schwettylens : I see what your saying by shooting when the car is right infront of me, but for some reason I perfer shots from the corners. Not sure why but it shows off more of the car. I'll try it both way and see whayt I can figure out and learn

If you want more in an angle, then you need to speed up the shutter. YOu will still see the blur. It is all about common sense really. Lets say you take it at 1/40 second. When the shutter opens, you want to make sure the subject looks the same as when the shutter closes. So if the car goes left and right, you have to make sure the location of the car on the frame is always the same when shutter opens and closes. Now if the car goes in an angle, it is impossible to do that because the subject will look different when it opens and closes because the angle changes too much in that period of time. Does that make sense? So in that case you need to make the shutter faster.

OOOOH yea that does make sense. I should shoot in continous mode too insted of single shot, that way I can just follow the car and hold down the shutter and take a bunch of shots while still following the car. Which will be easier then hitting the shutter over and over. Wow I've still got a lot of stuff to learn.
Nice shots btw I love hot rods
