My first expensive lens was a Canon EF-S 10-20mm.

My very first one. A Minolta 50mm/F? since I almost never used it. I was soon replaced by a 35mm which was much more to my taste.

No, it wasn't super expensive but it wasn't cheap considering I basicaly never used it.

LOL.. funny... I didn't think about that. I was recalling the film days so noise was obviously the AF motor.

I just bought my first "expensive" lens not too long ago: Amazon.com: Nikon 300mm f/4.0D ED-IF AF-S Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras: Camera & Photo and a 1.4 TC to go with it. It's indescribably better than the crappy Quantaray 70-300mm I was using before. Now if I had another few thousand in spare change I would say good-bye to the kit lens and get a few others I've been wanting to replace it...
