I think it's very interesting their signs are in English. No preference.

The second, with the signs at the top creating a sort of banner headline, has more impact.

In the first photo, my eye is immediately drawn to the lady.
In the second, my eye is immediately drawn to the sign, "Where is my vote?"

Second, definitely. Angry women, arm in the air dragging the eye to the purpose of the photo.

Regarding the signs in English, some would say (not ME of course) that they are in English because of where the protesters got them *cough*.

Again, I am not agreeing or disagreeing with that. Just what some say.

I'm wondering what the masks are for.

The mask are some sort of symbol of a silent protest. I think the 2nd one works better. The intense look of the woman's eyes show a high level of passion.
