Whispering Drake, Smiling Hen
A pair of Canvasbacks (diver ducks) from last spring.
I was walking a dike along a National Wildlife Refuge when I spotted the pair about 100 meter out.
So I dropped down on the backside of the dike and walked to the location I guessed was correct.
As I peaked over the dike, I could see the canvasbacks were swimming closer but about 50 yards more down the dike.
So I dropped down on the backside of the dike and walked another 50 yards.
As I peaked over the dike I could see the canvasbacks swimming directly towards me!
After waiting for about 20 minutes I got this photo with my inexpensive bridge camera.
The foreground blur is from large dike rocks that prevent erosion.
The best part was the canvasbacks were never aware of my presence.
