wide angle lens and aperture

With a wide angle lens, things far away from the camera will be small in the photo. So even though they may be blurred because they are out of the depth of field, the fact they are small means that it's hard to see the blur. Kinda like how a billboard looks sharp, but it is actually made of some pretty big dots. Everything looks sharp if it is small. So while Depth of field can keep things sharp, you can also reduce the appearance of blur by making it smaller.
