~ Winter Waters ~

Ice formations hang suspended like stalactites from a log stretching outward from the banks of the French River toward her midline. I ponder the translucent ice as the sunlight in the west backlights each icy form, solid and unyielding as swift and frigid waters rush by their curious shapes. I take delight in such natural beauty, yet I reflect on the dangers that lay just below her surface when I recall having been dumped into such unforgiving waters whilst canoeing during flood stage in the month of February, some 43 years ago.
