I have yet to see any digital technique that can really capture the Kodachrome feel. Sad really.

No it's not, digital will never be as good as Kodachrome

Beautiful. What was the impetus behind developing color film (I ask because so many technologies start at Dept of Defense level)? And did USA have color film before Germany? How long after did Germany acquire/produce color film?

Kodachrome was developed by Eastman/Kodak (Rochester, NY) which is folding or downsizing?
