haha yeah sorry... I was just so excited!!
here are my very first shots with this lens!

1. My favorite- in macro setting (this one is pretty much straight off camera... I just upped the contrast a touch)

2. another try at macro

I took our newest foster bird (her wings are still clipped, so she won't fly away) outside for a little session... I had a hard time controlling the white against the colors so I ended up blowing out some of the highlights

EDIT: AAAAAAAH they're still ginormous!!! sorry if they're too big! I cannot figure out how to resize them again.... long story

Hey Lynzi, congrats again on the new toy! You pretty much called it already on the highlights, my personal tastes say the flowers are a bit too saturated. I think my fav is the last one, the background makes him/her pop. Is he/she a little pink??

First, dust on your sensor on #3. Easy to clone out where it is.
Settings in your camera have everything set to vivid? It is quite saturated. The pictures are sharp though, good stuff!

The second is my favorite macro. I really like the first two of the cockatoo, as well! How old is he? Looks like he's short some feathers on his chest, though I can't tell for sure. I used to have a parrot, a few years ago; thinking of getting another. You foster birds? How does that work, if you don't mind my asking? (PM me if you will, I'd really like to find out more about that.)

Anyway, really sharp and well-framed, although the first (of the bird) could be less centered. What aperture were the shots of the bird taken at?

on the first of the Cockatoo, I thought i might get away with it a little more centered because the angle was so different.... but maybe not

That's Birdie! She's anywhere from 3 to 7 years old... no one really knows for sure. She is missing quite a few feathers from all over her body, her particular species is very well known for plucking their feathers out. No one really knows why they find comfort in ripping them out, but the reasons can be anything from neglect to a slight food alergy, in her case it was being neglected too much, another of my fosters was abused and she took out her frustrations on herself... you can't ever reall know for sure... If you ask me... Birds are the worst pets to keep, especially the bigger ones. but that's a whole seperate LONG rant there haha. I do foster and rescue with a small group in my area. I think I'll put this here so everyone can see it. If you're considering getting a bird or any other animal, including fostering, find a rescue group near you that you feel does the animals more good than for themselves, basically, if they're NOT non-profit they're pretty much up to no good. Contact the group and let them know you're interested in fostering and/or adopting and they can fill you in from there
it's a great experience, and with so many lovelies coming in and out... so many subjects to shoot!!!

edit: and her slight baldness is nothing... I've seen some birds that actually run out of feathers to pull and start ripping holes in themselves... it's a nasty situation, and these amazing creatures deserve so much more.

oh and one more thing.... I don't know what the aperture was!! So embarrassed... I'm still learning and I don't know how to change it yet! sorry

Thanks for the info, I'll look into it! Or rather, I'll put my mother to it; she wants another bird worse than I do, actually. My neighbor has a Quaker that pulls his feathers, he's nearly always bald but for his wings. His started from neglect, but I think he developed a bit of a personality disorder. In fact, I'll be watching him for them this week. He's an ornery little guy, last time I watched him for them (along with their two older dogs) he took a piece out of my finger. I still love him, though.

Oh, and you should be able to check the exif data of the image in your image transfer/viewing program to see the aperture (as well as shutter speed, ISO, etc.), helps with the learning process. Half of the time I forget what aperture I'm using as well.
