Plant/flower IDs can get pretty complicated. Sometimes the flower can only be identified by either a detailed analysis or features on the plant itself, such as leaves, seeds or whatnot. I suggest buying a variety of local and regional guides, both with pictures and illustrations and have at it. Maybe I'm wrong, but my experience with just the plants in the Mojave Desert has led me to use six or seven different manuals, take several flower identification and botany classes, hook on to a couple different botanists and bug them for information and I still may/probably have a few incorrect. I would have thought the desert, all flat and empty, would not have such diversity. Fooled me- It's fun though, in the weirdest way. Maybe you'll luck out and it'll be different in your area.
