AF Points on 40D not highlighted when shutter half way press

I don't remember what settings changed on my EOS 40D, but today when I tried to AutoFocus by pressing the shutter half way, I don't see the AF points highlighted. The 17-55mm f2.8 lens is doing auto focus properly. Because I can see the barrel rotation and motor noise. Without this highlighting, I couldn't figure out where the lens is focusing on my frame.

Any 40D or EOS users please throw some light. Highly appreciate your response.
 
If you have your camera set to AI Servo mode it will not show you the locked focus point because it's always changing. It's focusing in real-time.

Switch it back to One Shot mode and you'll see your AF points again.
 
make sure "C.Fn III -4 Superimposed display" is ON, check pg. 159 on your manual.
