Ever since the demise of my beloved PalmPilot () I've been using a combination of a regular old flip-style cellular 'phone and iPod Touch for communication and information. From a communication point, the 'phone is fine. I don't use text-messaging, and I make very few calls, BUT having to use two devices is starting to become annoying. That makes this even more so (for me) is that iOS does not permit applications to run in the background. This means in order to get reminders, prompts, etc, my 'Touch needs to have network connectivity. Since I'm (more often that not) out of reach of WiFi, and often in areas with little or no cellular service, this is less than ideal.
So... what I want is a device into which I can program appointments and see/hear on-screen reminders even with absolutely no network connectivity at all. I would like something that allows good web access, and easy data entry. I don't need social networking or anything like that...
I'm not really looking for specific model recommendations, just suggestions as to what general direction would be best to proceed for a good business tool.
