    what aperture would you say the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens is sharpest?

    Why not just try it yourself? :) It's a matter of 5 minutes and you'll see how your particular lens behaves with your camera body.

    I find "sharpest" to be negligible really with these lenses. Shoot at what you went sharp in your foreground and background instead and make the photo you want.

    I find f/2.8 is very sharp...
