Canon t5 flash??

Might be a dumb question but when using my T5 with its built in flash I notice it flashes multiple times before actually getting the picture. Is this normally how these cameras operate or is this a setting change.
 
Yes, depending on the camera model and the settings, it's common for cameras to do that. In some cases, it's used to talk to it's own systems and/or to other flashes about what settings to use for the best exposure, called "TTL". In other cases, it's used to make the subjects' pupils get smaller just before the actual shot is taken, in order to reduce red-eye.
 
Okay sounds like its supposed to be like that. It was kinda driving people nuts last night lol. I was just messing around with it in a poorly lit bar at my wifes bday party.
 
That was exactly it..it was the autofocus doing it. I rarely used the flash so it was a strange thing to me.
