Cyanotype negatives

I wanted to give cyanotypes a try. To anyone here who has done them, have you ever used original B&W negatives for the process or do you scan the negatives and then make a transparency? I thought it might be cool to make a contact sheet of 35mm cyanotype on a shirt or something similar.

I guess my main concern would be damage to the negatives.
