Can anyone recomend an optimal general use setting for the Nikon D40x with kit lens.Ive been tamplering around with it, but it seems to be getting worse. And what does M,A,S,P stand for?

thanks in advance. I'm a total Newb to this whole thing.

M = Manual, A= aperture priority, S = shutter priority, P = Auto or program mode. Any other settings are based on your personal preferences, reset the camera to default settings, read the manual and only tinker once you know what your doing. H

there is no good setting for "all around". you expose for the scene based on your metering...or experience.

use P if you have no idea what you're doing...and read read read about exposure.

Nah use the Green box if you don't know what you're doing. P and A should be the first step in for when you do.

Google "Exposure" and "Aperture" and figure out where your exposure compensation button is before you jump to A.
