Did she SERIOUSLY say that?

a lot of newspapers are doing this nowadays. They wont employ a person specialising in journalism, or a photographer and/or a video editor, they get one person to do all three things, so you end up with a jack of all, master of none situation. It's all about saving money

Pretty much eh? Kinda like telling a mechanic to go fix a car, and only give him one screwdriver.

For newsprint, the XT and a kit lens is more than capable. Those aren't exactly high res photos.

Still sad, but completely justified.

The OP'er was just exercising some curiosity and when told by someone who you would think knew about some basic equipment and didnt know the answer, they were shocked. I think its a little hypocritical to tell this person not to worry about what someone else is doing or using. We all look at what other photographers are using with both bodies and lenses.

Actually, we all don't. I don't care what, how or why a photographer does what they do. It's really none of my business.

I'm back. For some reason, I haven't been getting an e-mail that there were responses.

I'm not sure what lens was being used. I didn't care what camera make, model or lens was being used, but it just aggravated me that she didn't know what she was shooting with.

This wasn't a Sear's type portrait studio where you can only move the camera up and down. They are actually able to move around and get creative. I was not talking about that, just asking her and how she responded. They do make minimum wage, but it was just how she answered.

I'm not sure how old this person was and I'm not trying to offend anyone here - but its been my experience that in todays society, most people under the age of 30 have an 'I don't give a damn' attitude about almost everything - especially if its work related. They've been handed so many things in life without actually having to work or earn them that they honestly just do not care.
