Filter or No Filter

This is a fairly lame question but I haven't posted in awhile and it's a slow day at work so...

If you were going on a day trip and had the options of either taking a kit 18 - 55 lens with a polarizer or a non-kit 17 - 50 f2.8 lens which would you choose?

I might find myself in this situation and I'm having seperation anxiety with the polarizer.

what are you shooting? what time frame? if its during the day outdoors, go with the kit and polarizer.

NYC from early morning to nite. I was thinking the same but it'd kill me to have a brand new lens and let it watch from the sidelines while I use the kit. I might have to get a new polarizer (another $75) for the new lens right away. It's a slippery slope.

City I'd go the f/2.8. If I were heading out to the mountains or other nature, definitely the polariser.
