Hi, I am looking into getting a zoom lens for my xti and I've been looking at the 70-300 is by canon and I was just curious if that is the best choice for the price or if there is a different one anyone would suggest?

it is a very good quality lens. The build quality is not up to the L series, but the image quality is comparable.
It's not as fast as some, but if all you want is a farther reach, you should be able to get away with this lens quite easily.

My only other recomendation would be the 70-200 4.0L...just for the speed...but it's up to you

If you can afford it I second the motion to get the 70-200 f/4 L

An L would be lovely, but expensive. Going by the price range, have a look at the Sigma stuff. I've got a 70-300 and I love it.

70-300 is a decent lens for the price, but I agree youll get a much better lens if you save a little extra for the 70-200 f4 L.

The 70-300mm IS and 70-200mm f/4L are pretty much in the same price range :)
