Greyed-out "format memory card" option

hi, I'm using a Nikon D7000 and my delete option is greyed out. it says "not available with current settings" even though I have completely reset my user and custom settings. I cannot format my memory card either -- that's the kicker. I get the same message. any ideas as to what I can do? I really want to format my memory card (which is a SanDisk 16GB) but I have no idea how to do it.

Check the little lock switch on your sd card is not in locked position

Does the top lcd show 3 dashes where the picture count is?

Does it look like this? Then the memory card is locked.
