    Check out a Nikon D40, you can get the 18-55mm and 55-200mm VR, and body for $650

    D60 dones't have live view, live view anyway is pretty lousy and isn't something that would be used anyway. The only time i've used live view on my camera is once, and it was in a "hey lets see what happens" sort of situation.

    For a photography class I recommend a film f100.
