hornet wannabe?

Very active day today for bugs down by the creeeeeeeek. this insect here i originally thought was a hornet or something. but after reviewing my pictures from today i realized theres no obvious stinger or anything. do hornets even have stingers? i dont know. i like it though.

The long, solid wings speak against this one being a hornet, though I can't tell you what it really is. But hornets don't have long antennae, either, like this one has. And no "grasshopper" legs, either. But I can't deny the fact that it is a good looking crawly (not creepy to me!) and you captured it nicely. How did you light the photo?

My only regret/criticism is that it isnt as sharp as it could be. my focus was a bit off but i was standing on one foot leaning over tall grass to get this particular one. so in that respect i am proud that i even got it this sharp with one leg off the ground!
