Long Exposures

Nikon D300 and MC-30 Release - Trying some astrophotography; Regardless of what I do, the shutter will only stay open for about 20 seconds.

I set up the camera on manual - Fresh battery - "BULB" appears in the window; I have tried with the Menu setting for <Long Exposure NR> both turned ON and OFF with no difference ... The MC-30 is locked open .... Still the shutter will not remain open longer than about 20 seconds.

Any suggestions?

Long Exposure NR is Noise Reduction... it has nothing to do with how long the shutter is open.

I think you need to lock the remote closed instead of open.

Have you tried it without the remote? (Maybe the remote is to blame...)

I had a look at the manual for your camera, and it seems pretty straightforward - pretty much the same as any other camera...
