Very different to your mantis shot, and the harsh sunlight (I'm assuming) is not being your friend here. It's giving the shot a harsh almost simplistic look that is not uncommon in such light - esp if combined with a lack of flash and a need for a fast shutter speed and thus wider aperture leading to a thin depth of field
I always find it hard to get the fly to stay still, so I froze one ... yet when it came out of freezer, its eyes had glazed over and well, it didn't look nearly as good as yours.
I agree with Overread - very harsh light which is distracting! Nice shot though
