need a little advise

I want to start taking more portrait stuff of friends and family, so i was thinking about getting some sort basic lights set up.

I don't have any formal training in photography so i'm a bit ignorant as to lights and where they should be pointing etc. Can anybody point my in the right direction of some good books or websites on the subject?

also what type of lights should i be considering and how many?

You will have to answer that your self. The possibilities are limitless. Judging from the post I would say you are going for a studio set up. That can include anything from two table lamps to 5 grand in studio flash and reflectors. Think in terms of what you can afford and what you want to produce.


Basically any book or website will get you on the right path.
