Need help picking a lens

I am a newspaper reporter/photographer on a budget and would appreciate suggestions on an automatic zoom lens and where to get it cheep. NEED: For action sports, some night and indoor, auto focus for Nikon D100, about 200mm zoom. WHAT I CURRENTLY HAVE: Tamaron 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 (about $150) which is not stopping action well night under stadium lights.


I need a step up to a larger aperture lens but have to conserve money. I have the Tamaron described above it is slow auto focus compared to a Quantaray I had but broke. As you may know both these lenses do great in daylight, but...
