Quantums are great but pricy if I recall correctly. We used them at one of my old jobs. No AA's needed.
I use one of those cheapies that requires 4-8 AA's and usually do auto-ISO as well, up to around 1600 with a newer model. so I get pretty good refresh and it looks a little more natural than forcing base ISO. I can go all night with it but always fill it with 8 AA's.
I like that I can stick it in my back pocket tethered too since it's a bit too long to attach comfortably to the grip (although it is possible)
That was the nice thing about the Quantum bricks. They fit nice on the base.
