Any hands on reviews you guys and gals could offer?

I read in one of the reviews that it needs absolute line of site, but i feel like thats a stetch. Does the su800 really need to have direct line of sight to the infrared receiver on my sb600?

Regards,
Jake

It needs an "indirect" line of sight. It usually works for the IR signal to bounce off of walls.

But, generally, IR sucks for off-camera flash. Get an RF system.

IR is light we humans cannot see. But like light we can see, it can still be reflected off of things so an SB-600 can still trigger if you don't have direct line-of-sight. You would need to experiment and make sure the IR window on the SB-600 was pointing at the surface the ITR light would be reflected off of.

The SU-800 IR signal is more powerful than the in camera CLS signal sent by the pop up flash unit.

Thank you both.
