Just for grins and giggles I thought a comparison might be fun. On the left is a shutter from a 1966 or so Nikkormat FT 35mm film body. On the right is the sensor from my first DSLR WAY back in 1999, a Nikon D1. Thought some might find it interesting.
 
You ought to work up an image where the sensor is lying next to a piece of 35mm film, so that people can once and for all understand the whole concept of the crop factor. Maybe we can make it a sticky here in the forums so that we can always point people at it.

A great public service would be done to the world, my man...
 
OK, this first pic is of the Nikkormat 35mm shutter overlaid on a Nikon D1 sensor. NOTE: The blue and brown wires are the flash sync wires and are holding open the top curtain. The curtain is not fully open, so the full frame size is the opening in the shutter frame.

Please excuse the massive amount of dust, my bench is not currently a dust free white room environment. :lol:
