(far as I'm aware) This is one of those things that kind of got broken with the sites new software update and is still being reviewed. It's something out of the moderators hands and also out of our own admins hands as well - as such its the sites full admins/owners who have the reigns on this.

Please do comment here - reporting and raising the issue helps to highlight it for them and demand for a service helps to keep things at the forefront of being fixed.

Seems strange they'd not want to fix the cash register.

Actually there are many NSFW photo's posted in the general galleries by members that are not subscribing members, it is only the "nudes" that are limited to the subscription section.

Well, this is very curious indeed. A photography forum that has an issue with nude or semi nude pictures.
This website is considered to be family-friendly, and placing some control over what is posted helps members feel more comfortable in allowing their children to visit.

I just joined and I am trying to get the rules down so as to not offend anyone. I see no area for specific posting of images that might be considered offensive by some, that is semi nude, lingerie or even somewhat suggestive. I read the policy and it makes reference to a subscription. I clicked the link provided and got 'file not found'. Is this a situation where you have to pay to be able to post a somewhat sexy picture?

Could someone clarify please?
I've been posting some pretty bold semi nude photos and there were no trouble at all.
I'll certainly post more.. I just put nsfw in the title

"So......you just post and label them NSFW? Is that how it works?"

Correct

And I'd assume the line to not cross would be full frontal nudity. But i only shoot sports and wildlife so I'm not an expert on the matter.

This is an issue that has gone back and forth over the years.

For a while, we did have a public NSFW section, but the problem with having a specific section with a name like that, is that shows up in searches and would give the forum overall, a mature or 18+ rating.

The policy of the owners is that it's just better to skip that section and promote the site as family friendly etc.

Of course, as photographers, we realize that photos of scantily clad people is a very popular subject, so as a compromise we included a section for it with our member/subscription plan. And as mentioned, that feature hasn't yet made it's into the new site format.

So.....the way that is has currently been working, is that if someone has photos to share that might be considered NSFW, they add that to the title. And as long as nobody complains, it stays. Of course, this is taken on a case by case basis. Raunchy pornography would probably be taken down, while suggestive & artistic shots are probably safe.

Of course, people often forget the simple solution. If you want to show off and discuss your NSFW photos, you can host them somewhere else and then just link to them rather than displaying them directly in the forum. With 'standard content' images, doing this would usually result in very few people taking the time to leave the site to view your photos....but with NSFW content, I don't think that would be a problem.

A few more comments....

First, as far as any imagery that might be labeled NSFW (which generally indicates nudity, but sometimes contains other content), we ask that you not only add "NSFW" in the subject title, but you include a link to the image in question.

Second, please remember that this is a privately owned site, and the site owners reserve the right to control how certain content is displayed. It may take a couple of extra steps on the part of the members, but nothing is being censored. Promise! :)

Third (and most important), is that since we moved from v Bulletin to xen Foro software, there has been a change in how we sign up to be Supporting Members. From the main forum page, at the very top right where your user name is displayed is a small drop-down arrow. Click on that, and in the menu you'll see "Account Upgrades" about halfway down. That link takes you to the various options for becoming a Supporting Member. Select which term best fits you, and the Subscribe link takes you over to Paypal....easy as pie! :) I think it breaks down to pennies a day to sign up, and you also get increased Gallery space, the ability to change your title, and other such goodies.

btw, the NSFW/Nude Photo Gallery IS here...it made it over from the software transition. All the threads and images are showing up...you just have to be a Supporting Member to see it and use it freely. If boudoir photography or other types of shoots involving nudity are an important part of what you like to shoot, that would be the easiest place to post them.

Hope this helps!

not so sure on the pay plan for it, but i do appreciate the separate forum for it and when people put nsfw in the titles. I often surf the site with a kid next to me or over my shoulder (they like to look at some of the pics too) and not once have i come across something they shouldn't have seen. The users themselves are doing a great job with the warnings and nsfw in the titles.

Well, this is very curious indeed. A photography forum that has an issue with nude or semi nude pictures. And the prospect of paying for the 'privilege' of posting a nude......really? That, at least to me, is kind of humorous.

I am a member of a few other forums all of which simply have a section usually labeled Glamor. This where pictures that might be even slightly suggestive to full nudes are posted. And please know I am using the term nude here for lack of a better word. I am not referring to anything even verging on pornography. In fact the general rule is no exposed genitalia. It's quite simple and all members, being mature adults, abide by it. Those browsing the forum that don't care to look at nude or suggestive pictures just do go into that particular sub forum.

Photographers have shooting nudes since cameras were invented. To have a meeting place for professional and amateur photographers and not have a place to post one of the most popular forms of photography is just odd.

Are we really still trying to hold on to the archaic beliefs of the 1930s in regard to the unclothed human form? Especially in a meeting place of artists. I guess I'm a little surprised that I'm even writing this. Why should I have to?
I didn't get it at first either. But after some thought.... I have restrictions and parental blockers on my kids devices so they are stopped from going to some sites online. If they changed that, then this site may not be accessible to many minors. Other thing is a lot of minors may come on here, join or not but still do as they are interested in photography. The pay section keeps them from such comment, as chances are most minors can't cough up a credit card. Not so sure on the pay section for it, but in a way i guess it makes some sort of sense.

Forum has probably been taken over by bible bashers, nudes were some of the first subject when photography started anyone who has a problem with nudes being posted has a very big problem

Look, I really didn't aim to drag this into a major discussion, albeit interesting. So forgive me for taking up so much time and resource.

Capisce?

You're new here...you'll soon realize that major discussion is what we do, and it usually winds up being more about bacon than the original issue, regardless of its gripping nature. We're a chatty bunch!

Besides, it's less about any Puritan hangovers and more to do with the fact that many of our working members are a naughty bunch, who regularly sneak into the forum while at their desks - and what's all fun & games can devolve rapidly if they are caught with certain images on their screens that their company net-nannies find punishable. That gives you a more complete picture, hopefully.... capisce? ;)
