powershot S1 IS

what are your thought on this camera for the amature that wants more then what a point and shot offers?

If the amature wants more than a point and shoot offers, he/she should shell out for a DSLR.

This is what happened to me. I got S1 IS hoping I could do serious photography with it.

It's not convenient:

You can't achieve shallow DOF
You can't focus fast
It is not fun to shoot with
The body is really flimsy
The resolution is not there
You can't go to high ISO without getting lots of noise
Therefore, the inside shots look bad
You can't shoot moving objects fast....

etc etc etc...

Shell out for the rebel... you won't regret it. Even if you have to wait a few months Cheers

I agree. The S1 IS is a point & shoot style camera & it's only advantage over most others is the IS feature.

Go straight to the Digital Rebel and open up the world of SLR photography.
