Processing 500+ raw files......

question for you.. why do you convert the raw to jpg then delete them? why not just delete them then convert the ones you want?

I phrased my response badly. I convert the raw to lower quality JPEGs (meaning not 10MB and small enough to fit to a normal computer monitor -- those big apple displays don't count!) That's what I send to friends and family or post on facebook.

The JPEGs I don't like I delete.

The RAW files stay in a separate folder and never get touched (they only get deleted if it's a really bad shot where I didn't mean to take a picture).

If people like a picture and want a print, I make it from the raw.

If a picture needs tweaking, I use RAW.

Are you talking about the actual time it takes for Lightroom to convert 500 RAW images to JPEG/TIFF/etc ... ?

Your system speed determines how long/fast this takes.

Today, I use DPP in an earlier (meaning slower) Core 2 Duo system. SLOW for me :( Am thinking about upgrading system to one of the "E8xxx" chips - prices are below $200 and have 6MB internal cache. Currently, best bang for my dollar.
