Question about Camera

I am going to purchase a DSLR camera soon. I am looking at Nikon and was wondering what the difference was between the D40 and D80? If I purchase the D40, will I outgrow this camera? I am wanting to eventually turn my hobby of photography into a business and I do not want to have to purchase a new camera when I decide to take the plunge. Thanks in advance for the help.

The D40 is great quality wise but I can not recommend it. It has no autofocusing motor which limits the lenses you can use it with to new AF-S lenses only. So no second hand lenses, and no older lenses that don't have current AF-S replacements. These include things as benign as the 50mm f/1.8, which is a fairly standard and cheap lens all people should have.

Go for the D80 and if you can't afford it I'd suggest saving for it or looking to Canon, Pentax or other manufacturers who didn't make this cheap mistake.
