Questions from a noob

K- here's the situation... I press my snapshot button halfway, waiting for it to focus. Instead, it doesn't give me a green focus square, and has a red "AF"... 1) auto focus??? or what? and what does that mean? It obviously failed to focus.

Also, 2) why is it when I try to zoom in on something- and i'm talking, zoom in just even a little bit, the camera won't focus!!! it's annoying. Why why why?

3) Why does the "capture quickness" keep changing as I zoom in more and more?

gonna need more details than that...

What type of camera do you have?

Also, you must be a certain distance from the subject to focus, you must be focusing on something with contrast, and when the aperture changes ( when you zoom in), this changes your focus so you must refocus.

Could be something else, but I dno what type of camera you would have that gives you a green box?
