Depends on your brevity.

I've actually shooed several away while being within several feet of them (less than 5). Several thoughts: (1) they didn't care that I was within feet of them, (2) they are freaking huge, and (3) they are bad-as5, with respect to thoughts 1 and 2.

Had I not yelled loudly while moving my arms around like one of those inflatable wacky waving tube men local used car dealerships use, they probably would have shrugged me off.
