I see a lot of these after rain when I am hunting for shroons. 2-3" long.

Nice shots. You said that you see a lot of these after the rain, so...I wonder what they come looking for after the rain?

Nice exposures. Try to shoot them in a cleaner looking area though. If you have to pick up some of the dead leaves or move the efts to a nearby area that you have prepared you will get better shots. To me the cluttered forest floor in these shots is a distraction from the subject.

They come up for air. Since they stay buried under neath foliage and such the rain will flood their usual realm and they come up to get a breath until it dries out enough for them to return.
 
I like them as they are. But are they newts or salamanders? I have never seen a newt out of water.
 
Glad you enjoyed the newts.....they are newts and not salamanders.

I try to capture things I find in the forest where I found them. If I start moving them for better backgrounds, what attracted my eye in the first place is lost.
