Sandhill Crane with my new EF 400 f/2.8

I got to try my new lens out evening right after the UPS truck dropped it off. I can see there is going to be a learning curve with this behemoth but the first shots were not to bad. I put the 400 on my 40D and srewed in a monopod and took a stroll out back to the marsh and shot these first pics.

What do you think for a first shake out cruise?
