Sb 600 help

Was using this off camera last night, and id go to take the picture and have to hold the button down for bout 3 seconds before it would shoot, and the flash would fire, is this standard? Found it a little hard to time anything out that has action, or am i just expecting too much.

So i looked and its on 1/60th. And after focusing, it takes bout 1 1/2 seconds before it fires. Seemed longer last night but either way, shouldnt it fire instantly when i press button?

Kept searching and think i figured it, Apparently when u push the pop up flash button on the camera, and rotate it for rear? and red eye, i put it on redeye reduction. Switched it to nothing and seems to work good now. Thanks for the replies though.
