Silhouetted Sunset

This is an area referred to as the "Alpine Plateau" near Lake City, Colorado. Taken last summer. Sony DSC-W1. Not sure about the exif info since I changed format of pic without saving original. Some minor level adjustments and cropped to pano.

This kind of colourful skies will always and again catch my eye! This one here even has a purple tint to it. Very nice.
What happened to SOME of the trees?
Are they dead?

I love sunset pictures, particularly ones with silhouetted "life" added to them.

Only critique I have right now is the is a bit of grain in the sky. Not sure if this is from scanning, PSing, or maybe cropping.
