I use Windows Movie Maker, came with my Vista machine and works great. And was free....

    Probably free to download.

If you can export the WIndows movie maker file to a video file, there are a dozen and a half ways to go from there. THe most popular DVD authoring software is Nero Burning Rom (haha), but that costs money. Try InfraRecorder first and see if that works for you.

May be is a tough Christmas project for me :(

Is there any software or service under $50 could make it more easier?

I use Proshow Gold, from Photodex. You can get it for $69.95.

It's the best slide show software I've used.
