I was doing an Xmas card shoot last night and the Mom asked "Can... we maybe shoot outside?" I said Lets give it a shot! Never did anything like this before but this was an awesome learning experience. The back strobe was a little to hot and the CA is out of control but I really enjoyed the outcome. Snowflakes were the size of buicks which definitely added to this.
My take aways:
- A 3 light setup would have probably knocked this out of the park.
- A person holding the strobe is 1000x better than a light stand.
- Will try to put the strobe way above the top of the frame next time.
- D800 focusing is a nightmare in the dark. Missed dozens of shots because it wouldn't lock on. Hopefully my D850 solves that issue.
- Walk in huge circles while setting up rear strobe to avoid foot prints in the background
- I hate snow.
