Somewhat of a macro question

Arkanjel is correct about distance. It's about 2 inches from the end of the lens. I would grab the 85 1.4 with some extension tubes since you'd get a whole lot of use out of that wonderful lens aside from macro. But if all you need is a macro lens than perhaps I'd simply get the 105 2.8 micro from Nikon. It's a great lens and to get the whole flower you just have to back up a bit. No lens is really ideal for such a medium distance.

Lens designed as macro lenses not only focus closer, they are optimized for optimum sharpness at close range.

For Nikon I really like the 105mm f4 ais micro nikkor... it' a manual focus lens, but a good bargain over the other options. Keep in mind that ais lenses won't meter on a d90, you'll have to guess and check the exposure, but for macro work that isn't a big deal.
