Looks funny but it works. I saw another invention, possibly more practical, and easy to build yourself. Same idea, only you clamp the umbrella onto your tripod. Protects you from rain, and in normal conditions, you can tilt it up and bounce flash off of it. I think it was profiled in the latest Pop Photo.
